The weekend of 26th and 27th September, Adelaide hosted its first ‘Adelaide Hair and Make up Trade Show’ at the Adelaide Convention Centre. It was hugely successful and had both industry and the public left highly impressed!

The weekend was jam packed with everything from Australian make up YouTube sensations holding demonstrations to Master hairstylists from right here in Adelaide and around Australia educating on all the latest trends.

To end the successful weekend with a bang, on Sunday night a fabulous runway show, produced by award winning Salon Director from ORBE in North Adelaide, Sam James-Cockayne, wowed the audience. The ‘Fashion Meets Art Runway’ show was a truly inspirational collaboration with some elite talent (local of course) within the industry hand picked by Sam to bring these two worlds together.

With a huge team of over 200 creatives involved, Sam spent the last few months putting this together along with the creative mind behind the ‘Adelaide Hair And Make up Trade Show’ itself, Kohl and Capri Director Sam Gehlken.

The opening featured the extraordinary Emma Hack sharing some of her thoughts and images from over the many years of her involvement within these industries; whilst local make up artist Mandy Nash and her team showcased 6 body painted models inspired by expressionism art.

Followed by Adelaide based salon Kinky Curly Straight with their Jean Paul Gartier inspired show… Imagine lots of beautiful high feather headpieces and stunning styling by Cimon Vozzo.

Then came Yellow Strawberry Salon with a high energy New York theme, sporting local hip hop dancers and show girls with models interacting with them as they hit the runway. A real party on the runway!

Country salon Jarah’s Hair made the trip down for the show, and we are so glad they did. They created a scene from Day of the Dead with intricate headpieces and skull bobble heads adding to the drama when the models took to the stage.

Duo Ninettes Salons and Hair Artique Studio went with an origami inspired runway with one off kimono style fashion and carefully folded hair pieces to mimic origami shapes.

The closing act saw the team from Orbe North Adelaide and Orbe Norwood create Graffiti magic on stage with their intense colours, Avant Garde geometric hair pieces and very cool one off plastic pieces by local designer Greta-Kate. Also featuring live graffiti artist Joel Rifsy finishing a graffiti piece standing more than 3 metres tall throughout the runway being dramatically exposed for the ending of the show.

With such a successful show, we can’t wait to see all the action next year! Bring it on!
